What List Creator does
List Creator provides a guided interface for creating a SharePoint Online list and its columns. It is intended to reduce the repetitive steps involved in manually creating a list through standard SharePoint settings.
Installation
- Acquire List Creator through the Microsoft Marketplace / SharePoint Store distribution process.
- A Microsoft 365 or SharePoint administrator approves or installs the application according to the organization's App Catalog policies.
- Make the web part available to the intended SharePoint site or sites.
- Edit a modern SharePoint page and add the List Creator web part.
Using List Creator
- Open the SharePoint page containing List Creator.
- Enter the requested list name and the column definitions required for the new list.
- Review the configuration before creation.
- Submit the request.
- Verify the new list and columns in SharePoint.
Permissions
List Creator operates in the context of the signed-in Microsoft 365 user. A user must already have sufficient SharePoint permissions to create the requested list and fields. The application does not grant additional SharePoint permissions.
Recommended production practice
Before creating a production list, verify naming standards, information architecture, permissions, retention requirements, and any organizational governance rules. For significant changes, use an appropriate test site first.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| List cannot be created | Verify the user has permission to create lists at the selected SharePoint location. |
| Column creation fails | Review the column name and selected field type, and retry with a supported configuration. |
| Web part unavailable | Confirm the solution is installed in the appropriate App Catalog and available to the target site. |
| SharePoint service error | Verify Microsoft 365 service health and retry after any service incident is resolved. |
